Jefferson Davis was born in 1861. He was the son of George Rankin and Louisa Jane Gambrell. He passed away in 1935.[1]
Jefferson Davis Rankin was born 2 May 1861 in Newbern, Pulaski, Virginia, the son of George W. Rankin and Louisa Jane Gambrell. Jefferson died, aged 73, on 10 February 1935 in Anderson, Anderson county, county Carolina. He is buried at Slabtown Memorial,Cemetery, Anderson, SC.[2]
In 1870, the Rankin family lived on their farm in Garvin Township, Anderson, South Carolina. All members of the household were born in South Carolina. The household included G. W. (George Washington) Rankin, 48, a farmer, with $1250 in real estate and $780 in personal estate; his wife, L. J. (Louisa Jane), 29; their five children: J. D. (Jefferson Davis), 9, in school; daughter M. E., 7, in school; J. E. (James Edward, 1866-1930), 4; T. H. (Thomas Henry, 1868-1960), 1; and J. C. (John Crawford, 1870-1955), four months of age. Also living with them were Jacob Gambrell (probably a brother of Louisa), 23, farm laborer; Evaline Gambrell (Louisa’s mother), 54, a domestic; two farm laborers, a 14 year old domestic servant; and B.
