Samuel Rankin was born in May 1841 on board the "Earl Grey" on voyage to New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Angus Rankin & Janet (—) Rankin.

He married Catherine McDonald on 23 Sep 1861 at "Square Range", Nimmitabel, New South Wales.^[1]

Samuel Rankin passed away in 1886 at Nimmitabel, near Cooma New South Wales, Australia. ^[2]
