Biography
Jean was born 21 December 684 in Echt, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the son of William Rankin and Jean Cairn. [1]
In 1871, the Rankin family lived in Echt, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The family included William Rankin, 41, born in Kincardineshire, a Sargent Co. Police; his wife, Jane, 39, b. Kincardineshire; their children, all b. Aberdeenshire, except as noted: William A., 12, b. Kincardineshire; John, 10; George, 9; James, 7; Jane, 5; Mary, 2; and Alexander, an infant. The five eldest children were all scholars. [2]
