Hiram Rankin and Susan Drummond were married on 12 December 1839 in Gallia County, Ohio. ^[1]

In 1850, the Rankin family lived in Walnut Township, Gallia, Ohio. All members of the household were born in Ohio. The family included Hiram Rankin, 31, a farmer, with $2500 in real estate; Susannah Rankin, 26; children, Vinton, 8; Mary, 5; Barnet, 13; and Daniel, 11. ^[2]
