Biography

Anna Rankin was born in Augusta, Virginia (uncertain; York, Pennsylvania, per FaG), in 1756, the daughter of James Rankin and Rebecca Bennett. In 1775, she married Dr. George Nebinger (1755- 7 Dec. 1796). They had ten children, born between 1777- 1 April 1796. George and Anna Neppinger (sic) are mentioned in the birth records of their sons, James, 1777; and Andrew, 1781, both of whom were born in York, York, Pennsylvania, and Christened there at Christ Lutheran Church. Ann died, a widow, on 10 June 1827. She and her husband are buried at Newberry Friends Burying Ground, Newberrytown, York County, Pennsylvania. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Ann (Rankin) Nebinger was born in York, Pennsylvania (uncertain), the daughter of James Rankin and Rebecca Bennett. Ann is buried with her husband, George Nebinger, a Revolutionary War veteran (Pvt., 8 En, York Co. Militia, PA Troops); and her mother, Rebecca, who died in 1773, at Newberry Friends Burying Ground, Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, which implies that they were Quakers. Ann’s father, James Rankin, Esquire served as a Representative in the Assembly of Pennsylvania. After Ann’s mother’s death, and (before? or) after the American Revolution, Ann’s father went to live in England with his second wife, and died there in 1803. Two of Ann and George’s children, Mary (Nebinger) Lewis, 1779-1830; and Dr. Robert Nebinger, 1796-1867, are buried elsewhere. [6]

Ann’s family were Quakers. Her husband was a Patriot. Her father was a Loyalist, and fled to England prior to the American Revolution. Please see his Wikitree profile for more information on James Rankin, Esq.
