Biography

John Ranney II served during the French and Indian War.

John Ranney was born October 1, 1703, at Upper Houses, Connecticut.[1]He was baptized on the same day.[1]His parents were John Ranney and his wife Hannah (Turner) Ranney.[1][2]

On March 17, 1723-4 he married Eunice Wright.[1]She was the daughter of Jonas Wright. Eunice died September 20, 1730.[1]

On February 25, 1730-31 he married Martha Miller.[1]Martha was born March 28, 1705 and died January 4, 1799.[1]She was the daughter of John Miller and Marcy Bevins.[1]She was a sister to Margery Miller who married Richard Ranney.

French and Indian War

John Ranney was a drummer, 1745, in the Regiment sent to capture Louisburg.[1]. In 1755 son and father, John Ranney and John Ranney Sr., served together in the 4th Company, 1st Regiment, French-Indian War.[1]It was either son or father, John Ranney, who also served in years 1757, 1758, 1759 and 1760.[1]

  1. Elizabeth was born April 12, 1726.
  2. Eunice was born November 7, 1727. She married Isaac Gill on March 29, 1750. Isaac died at sea on July 4, 1759. Children: Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Joshua, Mary.
  3. Hannah was born August 24, 1730.

  2. Martha was baptized January 30, 1733-4
  3. Timothy was baptized January 27, 1735-6. In 1755-6 he served in the French-Indian War.
  4. Seth was baptized February 19, 1737-8
  5. Huldah was baptized February 4, 1740; on August 21, 1764 she married William Lucas of New Haven.
  6. Lucia was baptized April 11, 1742. On November 2, 1762 she married Henry Turpan (Turpin)
  7. Amos was baptized April 22, 1744.

John Ranney passed away 18 Sep 1760.
