Nancy was born in 1822. Her father was a man of considerable property owning several large farms along either side of the Georgia/NC border. Before his death Nancy was given a farm of 160 acres along the Notley River near Murphy Cherokee County NC. Upon the death of her father, her mother Catherine Raper made her home with Nancy and Hugh. She and Hugh worked the land and their ten children were born there.
The Civil War was extremely hard on the family and more so since the family's political leanings were with the Union. More than once the farm was overrun by armies of both sides. The family was forced to sell the property and moved to Macon County for a while and for five years lived in Fannin County Georgia where Hugh worked as the Indian Agent.
Two children died in early childhood and three other children pre-deceased her. Catherine and Iowa passed away and Andrew Jackson was hanged in 1888.
The family purchased property along the Qualla Boundary where they lived for the rest of their lives. That property is still called The Lambert Branch. Nancy passed away on Nov 23 1893. On the night of her death according to her son Samuel there was a meteor shower where it looked like 'every star in the sky was falling.
Nancy was born in 1822 to Thomas Raper and Catherine McDaniel. She died in 1892.
Memories of Samuel Carson Lambert as told to his son Russell Daniel Lambert.
