Arthur was born on the 6th September 1877 in Stoke Damerel, Devon. [1][2]. He was the son of Jonathan Rashleigh and Emily Jose. As a young lad he lived with his parents [3].
As a teenager he attended the Royal Hospital School, Greenwich, London. A charitable school for boys form families with a seafaring tradition [4]. After finishing school he enlisted in the Royal Navy on 4 Jun 1894 serving aboard HMS Cambridge. Service number 353359 [5]
Arthur married Minnie Edith Gill sometime near February 1911 in Devonport, Devon. [6]. Together they had a large family, initially in Devonport but they also lived in St. Cleer, Cornwall, although Arthur was seldom there due to this naval duties. Arthur finally left the Navy on the 23rd June1921. He last served aboard HMS Vivid III achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Cook [5].
Arthur retired from the Navy and lived for the rest of his life in Plymouth, Devon
[7]. He died in about February 1944 in Plymouth. He was aged 66 years 5 months. [8].

Birth certificate is 'ambiguous'. Spelt Rashley. Mother called Amelia, but father is Jonathan and mother was nee Jose. Must be OK.
Navy service log has date of birth as 6 May 1876.
