Mildred was born on the 15th July 1920 in St. Cleer, Liskeard, Cornwall ^[1]. She was the daughter of Arthur Edwin Rashleigh and Minnie Edith Gill. As a young girl she lived with her mother in St. Cleer, Cornwall while her father was away at sea ^[2]. As a young woman she was still with her parents in Plymouth employed as a domestic servant ^[3].

Mildred was married about August 1941 to John Scantlebury in Plymouth, Devon ^[4].

She continued to live in Plymouth for the rest of her life. She died in about December 1997 in Plymouth. She was aged 77 years 5 months ^[5].
