Note: This would seem to be an error Digital Copy "THE LIFE AND DIARY OF JOHN FLOYD Governor of Virginia, an Apostle of Secession, AND THE Father of the Oregon Country" by Charles H. Ambler, Ph. D., 1918, indicates

John Floyd was made governor of Virginia on January 9, 1830. Timeframe does not work. Bio of John Floyd. He was a descendant of JOHN1 FLOYD 1 who was born Abt. 1643 in prob. Wales and died 26 July 1687 in Northampton Co., VA. He married MARY BERRY Abt. 1660 in Northampton Co., VA. She was born Abt. 1644 and died in prob. Northampton Co., VA. Descendants of John Floyd. No original source records have been located to confirm birth or marriage records. It appears that some erroneous information may have been published, and perhaps republished/reported, making the “actual facts” obscure. There is a great deal of conflicting information surrounding William & Ruth Duncan – Many Source-to-Source discrepancies; co-mingling, Lack of records; family stories; number of Duncan’s with the same names, etc..

Ancestry for "William Duncan, the Elder," or even a maiden name for his wife Ruth, is considered Unproven and should be viewed with caution. Although many "history" publications give her name as Rawley, as well as lists of children, the "Oldest Source Found" for this was the "transcription of the 1565 Bible" (See Comparison of Sources Summary . Biography

Ruth Rawley, daughter of Mathew Rawley and Unknown of probably Wales (vs VA or England. Wales settled in Va 1719-1720 (Bible 1). [2]

Birth. 1702 Estimate (generally accepted)
Marriage: Feb 11 1722 Ruth Rawley married William Duncan (Bible 1).
Death: before Oct. 15, 1781 (Will 3) (vs died about 1746)

The Rawley's are said to have come from Wales, settling in Culpeper about 1719-1720. Some records indicate Ruth as an "only child" and the family as members of the "Church of England"; some indicate Ruth born in England of Welsh parentage.[2][3]

  • No Record documents found for Mathew Rawley located in Virginia.

Ruth married William Duncan about February 11, 1722. The Duncans were landholders in Culpeper VA where they raised a large family.[1]

No probate records were located for Ruth, who apparently died before William's Will of October 15 1781. No wife was named in his will, but seven children were named.[3] [4] [2]

Do you have a source for child Margot m. Kirk. She was not listed as a child in the Bible records. If no source, she should be removed as a child until parents can be identified/confirmed.
