Charlotte E. Ray was the first African-American female lawyer in the United States.[1]

Charlotte Ray was born around 1842 in New York City. Her parents were Charles Ray and Charlotte Burrows.

In 1882, she married Daniel Frame.[2]

She died in 1911[3] and is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.[4]
