Based on dates of ownership of schooners, it seems likely he would have been born much earlier than 1775, but I've put that date in case he inherited the ship from his father upon reaching the age of 18, when son Alexander was born and estimated death date as no older than 80 when Alexander died.
He was a captain, and owned a 44 ton schooner, "Betsey", (coincidentally the same name as his son Alexander's wife of many many years later) whose registration was closed in 1793, and by 1798 owned the 47 ton schooner "Industry". The records indicate travel within Canada only.
