Oscar Redman is a part of US Black heritage.

Oscar Earl Redman was born on 5 January 1899[1] to Charles W Redman (abt.1850-abt.1915) and his wife, Sarah Susan (Hamilton) Redman (abt.1860-aft.1940). [2]

He appears in the 1900 census with his parents, siblings, and two of his uncles (George T Redman (1853-) and David K Redman (1856-)) in Mineral, West Virginia.[3]

In the 1910 census, the family appears together, in Frankfort, Mineral, West Virginia. [4]

He registered for the World War I draft on September 12, 1918. His registration gives an address of 284 South Water Street in Keyser, Mineral, West Virginia. He was employed as a janitor by L J Karskadon (sp?). His mother, Susan, is listed as his next of kin. [1]

In the 1920 census, he is living with his widowed mother, Sarah Susan (Hamilton) Redman (abt.1860-aft.1940), He is listed as a laborer working for the railroad and his sister, Margaret, is listed as a marker at a laundry. At this time, he is known by Earl.[5]

He married Sarah Naomi [Naoma] Washington on November 16, 1926 in Mineral West Virginia.[6]

By the 1930 census, Oscar and wife "Naoma" have two children. The family is enumerated in his mother's household, along with two of Oscar's uncles.[7]

He and Sarah appear in the 1940 census with the last name recorded as Redmond. They were living at 119 South Lee Street in Cumberland, Allegany, Maryland. They lived in the same place in 1935, but not the same house. He was a night watchman at a garage.[8]

They had six children at the time. The older four children had all attended school in the past year.[8]

He died in 1972[9] in Cedarcrest Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He had only lived in Hartford for a year. He was buried in Cumberland. Based on the obituary in the Hartford paper, his son Earl, Richard, and Robert all lived in Hartford. Son James lived in Phoenix and Charles K., lived in Auburn, New York. HIs daughter, Reita Redman Davis, lived in New York City and his daughter, Patricia Redman Holly, lived in Cumberland, Maryland. His brother, Harry, was also still living in Cumberland. [10]
