Biography

Thankful was born in the south precinct of Dorchester, which later became Stoughton, in that section which was eventually set off as Canton, Massachusetts. Accordingly, she is often called the First White Child born in Canton; an assertion which has been challenged over the years, notably in the 19th century when local histories were being written.
