Settled at Whitby. According to "Lower Wharfedale" by Harry Speight (Elliot Stock, London,1902) his grandson Giles Redman migrated to Ireby near Thornton in Lonsdale. He was probably the ancestor of

the Giles Redmans of Kendal who belong on the main tree. The earliest Giles Redman of the Kendal group lived first at Old Hutton and was born about 1600, Giles who went to Ireby was born about the sam

e time. Ireby Hall and Old Hutton are about 20 miles apart on either side of Kirby Lonsdale. Giles Redmans were uncommon.

Both families may have used the same arms: gu. 3 cushions ermine tassled or. Boumfrey in "A Kirby Lonsdale Armorial" is unclear on this. For the present, I shall assume the connection (August 1996).

Greenwood says Cuthbert was in all sorts of trouble along with the Earls of Northumberland and Westmorland conspiring to restore Mary Queen of Scots. He was indited when in his early 30s. This puts

his birth at about 1535. He also says that Cuthbert inherited lands at Hutton Roof - not Old Hutton exactly, but not far out! Cuthbert also had properties at Borrowby and Newton (p Lythe) near Whitby
