ORAL FAMILY HISTORY:
John Wesley Reece ran away from his home in Virginia at age 14, joined the Confederate Army and fought in the Civil War. Later, on Dec. 17, 1879, he married Bettie Boyd Fagan. The minister was Rev. Charles Manton of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paris, TX (Lamar Co.). It was a double wedding, with her sister, Ellen Fagan, marrying William Lambeth. "John Wesley" became a family name, passed along to JW and Bettie's youngest son and to three grandsons and numerous descendants.[1]
