"As I have mentioned before, our grandmother Richards was a Sarah Reed. They were Stithians and Wendrom people. The Richards were from the same locality. We called our grandmother Richards, Ma Richards. She was my good angel. Not like the Angel of the Artists, she made juicy pasties with parsley in them and gave me kisses and pennies. When I was older I asked my father why it was that such a gentle and loving creature as Ma Richards should have such an exact and exacting daughter as our mother was. Father replied, “Ma Richards used to be just like your mother.” What changes time can make! Ma Richards was somewhat frail with yellow hair. Minnie looks more like her than any other in out family, so it seems to me. I used to read a great deal to her the Christian Herald, tracts, etc. for which I reaped large dividends." Excerpt from letter from William Rule to sister Grace Rule 11/28/1939
