Research Notes

It would appear that the only identification of Sarah Reed as the daughter of William and Deborah (Baldwin) Reed would be The Baldwin Genealogy of 1881.[6] C.C. Baldwin is citing Rev Samuel Orcutt's History of New Milford (of which he must have been consulting the author directly as Orcutt was not published until 1882)[1] which simply reads, "There are evidences that lead to the supposition that Sarah Ferriss, the wife of the first Zachariah Ferriss in New Milford, was sister to Col. John Reed, who is noticed in this book." Orcutt addresses Col John Reed (Read) is some detail pp 14-16 of his publication. Absent any documentation to the contrary it seems his belief, based on secondary documents of the era, that Sarah and John are brother and sister is justified.
