Biography

According to his tombstone, Joseph was born in 1735 and died in 1895. He was buried with his wife, Sibyl Proctor in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, Massachusetts. [1] His parents are unknown.

He married Sibyl Proctor in 1769. "The names of Joseph Reed of Temple in New Hampshire and Sibel Proctor of Chelmsford, and their Intention of Marriage was entered October 7, 1769 and publishment of such their Intention was made by posting up their names and Intention at the Meeting House in said Chelmsford for the Sabbath day following." [2] They were married in Concord on November 16, 1769. [3]

Joseph fought in the Revolutionary War, "engaged for the town of Acton". [4] In the book The History of the Town of Acton, the author states that Joseph fought throughout much of the War, and was at Concord Fight and Bunker Hill. He then returned home to find that his home had been sold for taxes. [5]
