Biography

Laurence Robert Reed was born to Lawrence/Laurence Edward Reed and Melissa Marvin Butt in Salt Lake City on July 26, 1913. He discovered years later that his birth certificate was recorded with the name of Clarence Arthur Reed - it is unknown if it was a clerical error or a misunderstanding, but the name was finally corrected in 1974. His half brother Paul E Mullinger and his wife Eleanor Mullinger signed the affidavit as witnesses.

His father, Laurence Edward Reed, died just two months prior to his birth while working and living in Elko, Nevada as a miner.

His mother married Gustave Patrick Mullinger in 1914 and the family resided in Salt Lake City. His half brother Paul Edward Mullinger was born on June 15,1915. They were fairly close growing up, and Laurence lived with Paul and his wife Eleanor in Nevada for some time.

His mother married Justus Dogert in 1921 in Idaho, and Laurence's half sister Helen G Dogert was born in 1922 in California where the family now settled in for good. In 1924, they lived in Oakland, Alameda, California and Laurence would spend most of his adult life in this area.

His son Robert Leland Reed was born in 1933 in Oakland, a marriage certificate has not yet been found for his union with May Emma Matson.

The young couple soon separated and May passed away in 1945. Her death certificate reflects the last name of Reed and indicates that she was married at the time of her death.

It is unknown if Laurence remarried. His mother was not fond of May or their child, and Laurence was largely absent from their lives. It is believed that he was a painter and may have been fairly well known in the Oakland area.

Laurence was born in 1913. He passed away in 1987. [1] [2]
