Biography

John was born about 1828.

He is found in 1850 at age 22 in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson, Pennsylvania. His wife Sarah Reed was age 19. They had an infant child Webster Reed. Also in the household were James Reed, age 24 and Caroline Reed age 18.[1]

In 1860 the family was living in Warsaw Township, Jefferson, PA. John was age 31. His wife Sarah was age 28. Son Webster was age 10. Daughter Caroline was age 6. Son John (John Franklin Reed) was age 5. Son Gillis Reed was age 1. Curtis Reed was age 8.[2]

John was age 42 in 1870. Children added between 1860 and 1870 were Busy Reed, age 8, Mary Reed age 6 and Annie Reed age 2. Warsaw, Jefferson, Pennsylvania.[3]

John is listed as a laborer in the 1880 Census. By that time the family had moved to Sandy, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. The children were Daniel W[ebster] Reed age 29, John F[ranklin] Reed age 24, Gillis L Reed age 21, Benjamin R Reed age 18, Mary E Reed age 16 and Annie E Reed age 11.[4]

In 1900 John and his wife Sarah were back in Jefferson County. John was age 72; Sarah was age 69. They were living with their granddaughter Mabel, age 16.[5]

He died in Brockway, Jefferson, PA and is buried in the Taylor Cemetery, Falls Creek, PA.[6]
