Thomas Reeder was a solicitor who practised in Wath-upon-Dearne, Yorkshire. He gave his profession as "gentleman" at the time of his first marriage to Elizabeth in 1847 and gave his place of residence as Wath-upon-Dearne. The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Whitton, Thomas Michael Harrison, Cassandra Blackburn and John Blackburn. By the time his first child Francis was born, Thomas was describing his occupation as "attorneys clerk" with place of residence Wath upon Dearne.
In 1851 Reeder was living in Chapel Street, Wath-upon-Dearne, with his wife Elizabeth, son Francis and two servants.
Thomas died in 1894 after a 15 week illness occasioned by influenza. He had a large funeral in Wath and was attended by many mourners led by his widow, Charlotte and son William Tofield Reeder.[1] An obituary made clear that Thomas had come to Wath in 1837 as clerk to Mr Thomas Nicholson, rising eventually to become a solicitor and partner in the firm. Thomas was highly respected and a "liberal supporter of the Wesleyan cause and in all things charitable he was always to the front. He was one of nature's noblest men and will as such be missed by a large circle of relatives and friends".[2]
Ancestry DNA results have confirmed that Thomas Reeder was the father of Frank Reeder (son of Elizabeth Middleton) and Anne Tofield Reeder (daughter of Charlotte Tofield).
