Biography

Jane can be found on the 1841 census, living at the family home in Talbenny with her parents. We next catch up with Jane when she is aged twelve working as a nurse (child minder) at the home of James and Elizabeth Harries, 1814 labourer from Talbenny. The next time we find Jane is at Hubberston, a parish of Milford Haven, working at the farm of Robert and Maria Scale. A farmer from the Steynton area. As of to date I have not found Jane on the 1871 or the 1881census. Jane married George Bowen a farm labourer from Hasguard (b 1841). The couple married at Hasguard parish church in 1873. The couple can be found on the 1891 census for Hasguard, at Bushford Hill. With them at the address is their daughter Letitia (b 18680 at Penclawdd Glamorganshire. Letitia Rees was born before the couple married, it is unclear if George is the father of Letitia. Also at the family home is Martha Rees, Jane’s widowed mother. And Mary Lewis, who is an aunt of George. There is also a Mary Ann James boarding at that address, it is not known if she is a relative of either George or Jane. It is not known for sure where Jane is buried, but there is a record of a burial of Jane Bowen in 1893. She is possibly buried at Hasguard parish church.
