Biography

Hannah Rees and her husband Thomas Rees already shared the Rees surname. There was no "e" at the end of the name, in either case. Rees is an extremely common Welsh name; it is unclear how closely or distantly related they were, but they were not first cousins.

Around 1800, as part of helping establish the Zane Trace, they moved to Fairfield County (Lancaster), Ohio. Thomas was reported as dying in Fairfield but being transported to West Bethlehem for burial; presumably, that means Hannah was buried in West Bethlehem, too. But firm, clear sourcing on this remains elusive, and her earlier death date could argue as much for burial in Fairfield.

Thomas and Hannah had eight children: Solomon, Morris, Thomas, Sarah "Sally" Reynolds, Margaret Hunter, Jesse, Mary, and Hannah (m Davis, Paxon). Morris, Margaret and Jesse are buried in Fairfield County, Ohio. Son Thomas, who inherited the family homestead, is buried somewhere near it in West Bethlehem, but the exact gravesite is yet unclear.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Rees-171 and Rees-181 are the same person, both married to Hannah Rees (her maiden name) - Rees-364. That Hannah is the daughter of Welsh immigrant Morris and Sarah Butterfield Rees of Chester County, PA, who then moved to what became Berkeley County, WV, near Hopewell Friends.
