Benj'n Reese is 4 entries away. Hugh married Martha McGee in September 1820. It is not clear why he has 3 children. This entry may be for Hugh's nephew, the son of his sister Nancy, or it might be for a totally different person. The surname might be 'Rees' or something different, but the given name is unmistakeably 'Hugh'.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:

Rees-982 and Reese-1039 appear to represent the same person because: Obviously the same person. Both forms of the surname were in common use. Either could be used. In the documentation the given name is 'Hugh'. He married Martha McGee 29 Aug 1820 in Warren Co.

So, basically it looks like this Hurriah R. is really Hugh III? How does Mr. Ansley feel about it? Looks like he manages Rees-982.... From his comments below, it looks like he is familiar with the gravesite - somewhere over on or near Knox River Road in Thomson, GA. The things I know for fact are Hugh "Hughie" had a son Tolbert, who had a son Jesse Otis, who had son Harvey Jordan - my grandfather. As for which Hugh is which.... My linking of Tolbert to Hugh is from a fellow named Dave Reese, way back in 2001:

From [email address removed] Ok, here you are: Talbert (as in the document I have)A. Reese b a1845 m Rebecca Jane ___? (all years abt) Benjamin T. 1867, William Theadore 1869, Rosa Lee 1871, Docey C. 1873 and Jesse 1878. He was the son of Hugh Rees/Reese and Martha McGee. Hugh b a1790 d 1865 Warren Co.(he is in the 1860 Warren Co. census); Martha b a1799 d 1870-80. Siblings of this Talbert/Tolbert: Thomas 1823, Cynthia 1836, Rachel 1836, Martha 1833, Curtis A. 1834, Uriah 1836, Dozier 1840 and Amanda 1845 (twin of Tolbert). Hugh's father: Hugh Rees b 20Dec 1742, probably VA, d 12Dec1825 Columbia Co. GA. His mother is unknown, but was 2nd wife of Hugh. Hugh had 21 children by 3 wives, 17 names are known, others probably died young. Dave Reese (if you have questions, e-mail me directly)

I have read the e-mail message from Dave Reese, and it appears to me that he says that Talbert was the son of Hugh Rees/Reese and Martha McGee and that Hugh was born in about 1790. If you look at the census data in the profile of Hugh Reese III, you can see that he was 60 years old in 1850. His son Talbert was 8.

Dave Reese then says that Hugh's father was Hugh Rees born 20 Dec 1742.

I am entirely in agreement with what Dave Reese seems to say.

The gravesite is for the elder Hugh Rees, who was born 20 Dec 1742.

So Hurriah, Jr. and Hugh III are the same person. BOTH are NOW sons of Hugh Reese (1742-1825) because of a merge that happened this morning (Hurriah Rees-983 into Hugh Reese-151). Previously they were sons of the two different fathers who were merged. Fortunately, Hurriah, Sr. only had one child, namely, Hurriah, Jr., so we only have one further merge to do. I don't know where the name Hurriah comes from, but the only name that appears in documentation is 'Hugh'.

One more thing - a web site I seem to return to often when I need to snake out something Reese is https://studylib.net/doc/9239121/reese-genealogy-presentation I am pretty sure the Dave mentioned there is the Dave Reese I referenced earlier.

Best regards,

Michael

Reese-1039 and Reese-1346 appear to represent the same person because: The profiles share the same mother and siblings and the birth dates, both uncertain, are very close.

Rees-982 and Reese-1346 are not ready to be merged because: This gentleman and all his direct males were Hurriah Rees and some used nickname "Hughie". The name was Rhys (pronounced "Rees" in Wales. The "e" was added by some descendants because officials spelled it that way and they couldn't read, so didn't protest.

So, the surname is Rees. The tombstone in the Rees Cemetery, located in present-day McDuffie Co GA (I can take you to it) spells the name "Rees". I agree that place of death was likely Warren Co GA (he was in that county's census in 1850 & 1860). Otherwise, I would have no problem merging, with those retention of my current data. Hughie is my great -great-great grandfather, thru Rachel Rees, Jeremiah Thomas Ansley, Elum Faris Ansley and Elum Rexie Ansley (my father).

Rees-982 and Reese-1346 appear to represent the same person because: These two are matching Rees(e). I have added census data to Reese-1346 which shows that the last name as spelled at the time is Reese. Please approve the merge and I will help with the cleanup. Thanks!
