One of our readers submitted a very interesting comment to an earlier post titled "Dudley Phipps and Family: North Carolina to Tennessee 1781-1870:"
A little background on Ambrose Phipps and the Reeves connection:
This Ambrose Phipps married Susan Holloway on 14 Feb 1828 in Wake County. Susan was the daughter of James Holloway, brother of Elizabeth Holloway Reeves (died c1820) and brother-in-law of John Reeves (died 1824). James Holloway was guardian of the 7 minor Reeves children and bought most of these children's portions of their father's land. Notice that Deborah Reeves' dower which Ambrose Phipps purchased at the rsheriff's sale joined his father-in-law James Holloway's land.
As for the county designations, these individuals lived on the south side of the Neuse River, east of Ellerby's (Eleby's) Creek in Wake County. Granville County was on the north side of the Neuse River and Orange County was a very few miles to the west. See the Fendol Beavers
The Oak Grove district of Wake County in the upper northwest corner is the area where Ambrose Phipps land would have been located between Eleby's Creek and Panther Creek.
FYI this is the same Reeves' family whose DNA is a match to that of George Reeves of Grayson County.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
According to the book by Lisa Alther, Betty Reeves was called a "Portuguese Indian". That would point to a Melungeon ethnicity perhaps. Perhaps White and Cherokee, or another tribe.
I would like to hear any comments on this. Concerning ethnicity: what are the dna test results showing?
I am a Swindle, Swindall, Toliver, Howell, and the Phipps and Osborne family feature in my family line. Ashe Co NC and Grayson Co VA.
A few of the GEDMatches listed do not work. I do match Peggy Kirby, Tessie Rose, and Jack Adams. My GedMatch #QG9415421. I dna match to a R. Phipps 3rd-5th cousin and D. Phipps 3rd to distant cousin and a J. W. Cox 3rd to distant cousin who shares the Phipps cousins with me on My Heritage. My direct maternal line is Reeves. The names I am dna matching to on this profile and in My Heritage associated with this Reeves profile I know to be on my dad's side of the tree (Taylor), so I am now wondering which of line/lines are not connected on wikitree on my mom's and my dad's side of the tree. Gerald Witt Gedmatch A513101 and Marc Reeves GedMatch GW3720112 are both confirmed dna cousins of mine on my Reeves line. If anyone would like to see if they match either of them to help solve this mystery and connect the family lines that would be great. Thank you:) Amy
Reeves-6582 and Reeves-1481 appear to represent the same person because: same name, exact same spouse (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Phipps-612), exact same parents, similar birth year, same death year and location
Reeves-5044 and Reeves-1481 are not ready to be merged because: I feel that Jane's father was not Hutchins Burton, but Nowell Burton, his brother. Also Richard Burton seems to have been married twice. I have not seen any evidence that there was a marriage to a Pleasants. There is a document which lists his wife as Ann. I think further work is needed to confirm Jane's parents.
I would like to hear any comments on this. Concerning ethnicity: what are the dna test results showing? I am a Swindle, Swindall, Toliver, Howell, and the Phipps and Osborne family feature in my family line. Ashe Co NC and Grayson Co VA.
