The will of Henry Reeves of Maurice River Twp. in Cumberland County is dated 2 October 1834 and was proved 22 December 1840.[1] It mentions:

  • son William Reeves, given plantation on which he now lives
  • son Abraham Reeves, given plantation on which he now lives, a lot of woodland, and one eighth part of a saw mill on "Mamumusking" [Manumuskin]
  • grandchildren, the children of son Abraham, unnamed, but to have 1000 dollars shared between them, the males upon reaching 21 years and the females upon reaching 18
  • son Benjamin Reeves given the grist mill he now occupies, a one eighth part in the same saw mill, the land where he now lives, including meadow, and an additional tract of land, and also 500 dollars
  • grandchildren, the children of son Benjamin, unnamed, but to have 1000 dollars shared between them, the males upon reaching 21 years and the females upon reaching 18
  • grandson William Smith Reeves, to be paid a legacy of of 200 hundred dollars by Benjamin Reeves [later called his father] upon arriving at the age of 21 years, and another 200 dollars to be paid under the same conditions
  • granddaughter Rachel [inserted above is Rebecca] Reeves, daughter of son William, given 500 dollars
  • daughter Mary Marshall; one half part of the "Neddy" tract to her and upon her decease to the heirs of her body, said tract purchased of the executors of William Furnace, decd.; also any claim Henry has on her husband Randall Marshall for the 1000 dollar bond for timber from the Neddy tract and a piece of meadow, is now released
  • daughter Jane, to have during her life the house Henry owned in GlassTonw [sic], where she now resides, purchased of her late husband Ephraim Leake, and also 30 acres of lend from the north-east end of the Peterson Tract
  • daughter Dorothy Lafferty; 70 acres of the Peterson tract to her and then to any heirs of her body (the reversion of this tract being the part for Jane), and also the house and lot where William W. Paul now lives adjoining Randall Marshall, and also some woodland; also 500 dollars to be put in trust for her support, should it be needed
  • granddaughters Jane Lafferty and Elisa Lafferty, children of daugher Dorothy, to have 500 dollars equally between them
  • "daughter" [sic] Jane Ann Stanger (late) now Jane Ann Marshall, to have the 70 acre tract should Dorothy die without heirs, and the same with the woodland; this was his granddaughter, as he names her such further down in the will, viz. he gave his granddaughter the other half of the Neddy Tract, but should she die without issue then this property is to be sold by the executors at their discretion; also to have 500 dollars, and if Henry's daughter Jane should not need the additional 500 dollars in trust for her support, that income is to go to granddaughter Jane Ann Marshall
  • grandson Henry Reeves, son of his son Henry, to have goods, stock, and implements of husbandry; the farm and land where Henry now lives with his grandson Henry Reeves is to go to the executors, and they are to use it for the support of grandson Henry
  • [great-grandson] Charles Reeves, son of grandson Henry Reeves, to have the same farm and land when he reaches the age of 21
  • [great-granddaughters] daughters of Henry Reeves, unnamed, to have proceeds of the sale of woodland upon the death of Henry Reeves, subject to the dower of their mother should she still be living; later down, he mentions daughters Ellia, Millicent, and Ann Reeves, daughter of his grandson Henry Reeves, who is presumed to be this same grandson
  • grandson Joseph Reeves, son of his son Joseph, to have plantation where he now lives along with all of Henry's lands at Downe Twp., but should he die without issue the land is to revert to the estate (subject to his widow's dower)
  • granddaughter Elizabeth Vanhook, daughter of his daughter Elizabeth, to have 100 dollars to make her equal with her sisters Mary and Avaline
  • [grandchildren], the remaining five children of daughter Elizabeth, each to have 300 dollars upon coming to full age
  • wearing apparrel to be split between sons William, Abraham, and Benjamin
  • any remaining personal property to be divided among the heirs, except for grandson Joseph son of Joseph, who is to have no part of it

Executors were sons Abraham and Benjamin Reeves.
