On 04 April 1883, Robert graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He specialized in children's diseases, writing a thesis on bronchitis. He entered his father's practice of medicine in Paulsboro, NJ.

He opened a pharmacy in Paulsboro at 114 West Broad St. He is listed in the History of Paulsboro as one of the physicians in the town (with his father, Edward Lafferty Reeves, and the owner of the pharmacy, opened in 1881. He is again listed in the Farm Journal of 1913. According to family stories, "Doctor Bob" by this time he practised medicine on a part time basis, devoting more time to his pharmacy.
The date of his death is January 12, 1933, in Paulsboro
