Benjamin was born about 1822. He is the son of Benjamin Reeves and Rachel Godfrey. [1]
The information below regarding the Civil War is incorrect due to a mis-identification. There are 2 Benjamin F. Reeves from the same town.
On Sept. 17, 1861, he enlisted in the Army, 6th New Jersey Infantry Regiment, Company K
Compay K, 6th New Jersey Volunteers
This Company was mustered in August 29, 1861,
and mustered out with the 6th Regiment on September 7, 1864
unless otherwise stated.
The unit was brigaded under Brigadier General Joseph Hooker. For the Battle of Williamsburg, Va., the command of General Hooker was known as 2nd New Jersey brigade, the 3d brigade, Hooker's division.
In the Second Battle of Bull Run, August 28–30, 1862, Benjamin was wounded on the second day (the 29th) and was subsequently taken prisoner on August 30.
He was Killed in Action at the Battle of Gettysburg,
