Research Notes

The father of Maria is also the father of her son, Joseph.

Biography

Maria Anna Alouisa Regli was born in Uri, Switzerland. When she was an infant, her mother died.

When she was 20 years old, she had a child, Joseph, the son of her father. This has been recorded in the parish books of the region.

In Jan 1888 when she was 31, she and her son arrived on the ship La Bretagne at Ellis Island from Le Havre, France. [1]

She married Fred Viemann on May 20, 1890 in San Francisco when her first child was 10 years old. DeAnne does not remember her ever discussing her family or her homeland. She did, however, definitely speak German.

All the actual public records of marriage were probably destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. I have contacted the Catholic Archives for San Francisco, and they were unable to locate any marriage records for her.

Maria lived a long life and had many children with her husband. A few of the died as children, and a few grew into adulthood. There are no surviving Viemann boys, and few of her sons had children of their own. Her daughter had two boys, but both died without leaving any children.

Research Notes

The photograph of Joe Miller was found in the belongings of my grandparents. I believe that he is a cousin to my great grandmother Marie Viemann
