Biography

The News-Shield has been informed of the death of Holunda E. Kern, 81, of Racine, Wis.

She was born Sept. 4, 1921, at Sebewaing, Mich., to John and Hulda (Miller) Reich. She married Otto William Kern on Nov. 22, 1947, at Burlington.
She was a homemaker who was talented in cake decorating (especially wedding cakes), sewing, and counted cross-stitching. She enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. She lived most of her life in Racine.
She was a member of TOPS and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and attended Racine Baptist Temple.
Surviving are children, Steven (Colleen) Kern, Janice (Stanley) Putra, Sandra Thillemann, all of Racine, and Linda (Steven) Skowronski of South Milwaukee; grandchildren, Beth-Anne Hermes, Danny Hermes, Jessica (Dan) Weeden, John (Dr. Jenny Geiger), Sarah and Christina Putra, Robert (Carla) Thillemann, Brian (Lauren) Thillemann, and Noah and Tonya Skowronski; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Brittany, Dylan, and Taylor Thillemann, Brieana Lamb, and her "little cutie" Emma Thillemann; a brother, Gerhardt (Merlyn) Reich; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, from Wilson Funeral Home, Racine, Rev. Frank Williams officiating, with interment at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mullane and his staff, Nurse Gloria, Nurse Bill, CNA Tootie, and others from Hospice Alliance for their special compassion and caring. They would also like to thank Bob and Maxine Anderson and Jean Lotz for being there for their mother. [1]
