Christoph and Veronica Reich migrated to NC and settled in the "Stinking Quarter" on the Haw River, Orange Co. NC, in the 1760s, later moving to the Stokes Co. area. In 1801 Christoph Reich was drowned in the Staunton River in Virginia while on a journey to Pennsylvania. Veronica was the daughter of Benjamin Lehmann of Zweibruecken Germany and Berks Co. PA. In 1813 she moved to the home of her son Matthaeus near Salem, and joined the Moravian congregation there. She died in Salem in 1823.

Christoph and Veronica moved from Berks Co., Pa. to the Haw River area of Alamance Co., N.C. after 1767 because of wars with the Indians. About 1782 the family moved to Friedberg [?Friedland?] near Salem where they lived for about 15 years. In 1798 they moved to Orange Co., N.C.
In 1801 Christoph Reich made a journey to Pennsylvania and was drowned in the Staunton River in Va... He frequently made trips to visit his family in PA. [Notes sent by Merrill Reich to Elizabeth Harris, 3/96]
Records of the Moravians in North Carolina[1] 4:1669. Jan. 22, 1781. Christmann and Reich returned to Haw River. The latter has declared positively that he gives his sons to the Unity.
Records 4:1708. Dec. 28, 1781. The Christmanns and Reichs returned to Stinking Quarter. Reich has bound his sons to Br. Samuel Stotz, through an Indenture, and has left them entirely to the care of the congregation.

4:1714 Jan. 31, 1781, Salem Boards. We hear that the elder Reich is free from militia service for this time. Footnote on this page says, "Then living in Stinking Quarter, on Haw River. He later moved to Friedland."
4:1738. Dec. 27. Aelt. Conf. Reich, Sr., wishes to move into our neighborhood, and as Fockel in Friedland wants to rent or sell his farm Br. Heinzmann shall suggest Reich as a purchaser.
4:1800. Jan. 9, 1782. Friedrich Müller has arranged the sale of Scherzer's farm to Reich, Sr.
4:1848. March 7, 1783. The piece of ground in Friedland which Christoph Reich, of Haw River, has taken over, and which has been planted for him, has been stripped of fences. The seed will be ruined by cattle, and Reid, whose land adjoins, shall fence in the fields and shall be repaid by Reich.
