Biography

There does not appear to be a birth record for Lucy Emmeline Reid, 2nd child and 2nd daughter of Lucy Maria Reid (AFN: RRKS-DH) (nee Lempriere) and Alexander Reid (AFN: RRKV-H9), with only a Find A Grave Index record giving her birth date as 8 February 1862 and the location as Bothwell, Central Highlands Council, Tasmania, Australia, that would relate to the Ratho property in central Tasmania. However, it seems likely that she was actually born in Hobart (afn: RRKS-ZF) while the family were resident near Bothwell. This is based on notes from the original ged file (see Acknowledgments). There is however a Birth Notice in The Mercury newspaper of 21 February 1862 that gives the birth date as 9 February 1862, with the location as Tasmania, Australia!

On 4 December 1883, Lucy Emmeline Reid married Stewart Charles Agnew (AFN: RRKT-DM), with the marriage registered in Bothwell, Tasmania. On this occasion The Mercury has the same date for the marriage as the record of 4 Dec 1883 that was published on 7 December 1883.

They had 6 children, from James Stewart AGNEW (AFN: RRKT-0K ) born on 14 Nov 1884 to Ivo Cumberland Fraser AGNEW (AFN: RRKT-5F ) born on 17 Feb 1893. All the children were born at Waverley, Oatlands, Tasmania, according to the original author of this profile, but Hobart is given in their profiles, so that Waverley, Oatlands was probably where the family was living at the time, in central Tasmania.

In 1914, Lucy Emmeline Agnew was on the Electoral Roll (ER) at 159 Macquarie Street, Hobart, Tasmania, doing Home Duties. Her husband had passed away in 1901. In 1919 and 1928, she was on the ER at Waverley Avenue, Augusta Road, New Town, Tasmania doing Domestic Duties, with Kathleen Louisa Agnew at Strauraer, Augusta Road with the same occupation. Kathleen was a sister of Lucy's husband Charles Stewart Agnew: no.2 Waverley Ave in 1928 for Lucy. By 1936, they were together at no.2 Waverley Ave., New Town, doing Home Duties.

Lucy Emmeline Agnew passed away on 21 April 1937, as a Widow, according to both her Deceased Estate File, and her Wills and Probate Record. Probate for the latter was granted 10 February 1938. Charles Stewart Agnew had passed away on 8 May 1901, while at sea, on a voyage between Hobart and Melbourne.
