Biography

William Reid, son of Joseph Reid of Scotland and Anne Gordon, was born in Augusta County, Virginia on December 14, 1746. [citation needed]

He married Jane Anderson in Virginia in 1765.[citation needed]

William Reid served in the American Revolutionary War as a soldier in the Augusta County, Virginia Militia under Captain Kinkead.[citation needed]

There is a reference to a William Reid who served under Richard B. Roberts Company of the SOuth Carolina Regiment of Artillery under the command of Barnard Beckman, Esq., dated 1 November 1779. He was present on that date serving as a drummer and was owed 18 2/3 dollars.[1] William was also present on a roll dated 1 January 1780. [2]

William Reid died in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1793;[3] possibly on August 20, 1793. [citation needed]

Reid-4537 and Reid-3380 appear to represent the same person because: Both parents are now being merged with duplicates. Dates and places all match. They do not have two sons named William with the same birth date.
