Alexander was born in Scotland in 1860. His grave marker states the town was Glasgow but his birth certificate states GOVAN,LANARK,SCOTLAND (NB Govan is in Glasgow). He was the son of Thomas Reid and Elizabeth White Thomas.[1]
When he passed away, he was buried in the Old City Cemetery, Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida. [2] He lies next to James Soutar who was also born in Scotland and has a mother with the maiden name of Thomas. They may be cousins.

There is a music book at Melyniog titled 'Music composed by the late A R Reid - Kilmardinny'.
In the 1881 census, he is aged 20 and living with his family at Kilmardinny House, and has an occupation as a Clerk.
He went to Florida to grow oranges. He probably lived at Rose Hill Plantation in Leon County, Florida just North Of Tallahasse, which his father had purchased in 1892 but Alexander died the same year on the 10th June 1892 at Ivanhoe, just outside of Tallahasse aged 31.
