This John Reid 1779 signed Albemarle County, Virginia Declaration of Independence
The following is from "Back of the Cane: Early Virginia Surveys in Today's Garrard County, Kentucky, 1775-1789" by Fred Logan Simpson
"The first members of the Reid family to come out to Kentucky in 1775 or 1776 appear to have been John and William Reed, apparently arriving by way of the Wilderness Road from Amherst County in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. John Reed appeared at the land court being held in Harrodsburg on November 5, 1779 and claimed a settlement and preemption 'on the head of a branch of Dick's River about two miles from the Knob Lick on the road from this to Logan's Station by raising a crop of corn on the premises in 1776.' The branch he refers to is Dougherty's Run, now known as Ball's Branch. He was awarded a settlement and preemption on the head of that stream, near today's Lincoln-Boyle county line, south of Junction City. He later built a dwelling on Clark's Run which is shown on the 1784 Filson map, located just slightly southwest of today's Danville. This was near the station of his close friend or relative, Samuel Givins. The Reed Cemetery is located just north of and adjacent to today's Briar Patch Restaurant on the Danville By-Pass."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
My research still shows Thomas Reid as father of John Reid Sr. I have not found any information indicating John Reid (11337) as father of John Reid Sr. No sources are shown for John Reid (11337) so I have nothing to compare to. Perhaps David Harlan (manager of Reid 11337) has sources. He indicated more sources coming soon in 2018. Can they be merged with two different fathers?
Any progress yet on the father? Meanwhile, since they both represent the spouse of Mary Woods, why not just disconnect both profiles from any father, then you and the other profile manager can sort out which father should pertain? You can always do the parental connection later.
