He seems to have been associated with the GTR at one time, but may have had numerous "careers". There is very strong evidence that he ran or was the proprietor of a number of hotels. The site of one such hotel, the King's, is now occupied by the Royal York Hotel. Another hotel was, in 2004 the site of a Golden Griddle restaurant on the north-east corner of Jarvis and Front Streets in Toronto.
