John was born in 1892, the son of David Reid and Julia Countryman. Unable to locate a birth record. His date of birth is taken from his Find A Grave memorial, which has no image of his stone.
In 1901, John (born February 16, 1892), was living with his parents and siblings in Edwardsburg Township, Grenville County South, Ontario[1].
in 1911, John, aged 20, was living with his parents and siblings in Johnstown, Edwardsburgh Township, Grenville County, Ontario[2].
John married Lulah Sherwood on April 9, 1918[3]. Their marriage record reads:
John Reid, 26, residing in Prescott, Ontario, born in Johnstown, Ontario, bachelor, farmer, son of David Reid and Julia Countryman, married
Lulu Sherwood, 23, residing in Roebuck, Ontario, born in Maynard, Ontario, spinster, daughter of Malcolm Sherwood and Mary Young,
Barbara Ellen Marie, married Robert Leslie Gabriel[6]
In 1921, John and Lula (sic) were living in Augusta Township, Grenville County, Ontario[7], with their children, Gertrude, 3, and Raymond, 1.
In 1931, John and Lulu were living in the Town of Prescott, Grenville-Dundas, Ontario[8], with their children: Raymond, Irvine, Mansell, Reginald, Melbourne, Gertie, and Viola, as well as John's brother, Dave. Two years after the Great Depression, neither John nor Dave had a steady job, and worked as labourers at odd jobs.
John died in 1968 and was buried at Maynard Cemetery, in Augusta Township, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario[9].
