Biography

Scottish flag
Charles Reid was born in Scotland.

Charles James Reid was born in about 1879. He was the twin son (Albert being the other twin) of Wilhelm Bretz and Martha Winter.

In the Scotland Census of 1881, Charles Reid (aged 1) was living with his father William Reid (aged 32 and a Seaman), his mother Martha Reid (28) and his siblings James W Reid (11), Helen Reid (9), William Reid (7), Alexander Reid (aged 4) and Albert Reid (1) at No. 1 Harbour Street, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

When Charles was 8 years old the family emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand, departing London on 22 September 1889 and arriving into Welllington on board the Kaikoura on 6 November 1889[1]. From there the family made their way to Auckland.

Charles married Myra Jane Grant on 1 December 1906 in Auckland.

They went on to have four children.

His wife Myra passed away in 1915.

Charles may have passed away in 1917 at the age of 38.
