Roderick Reid is an Anzac who served in World War Two.

Biography

Roderick was born in 1918. He was the son of Joseph Reid and Mary McGrath.

His mother died in 1937.

In the 1938 NZ Electoral Rolls he was recorded at the Grand Hotel, Rotorua, working as a Cook.

His name was published in the New Zealand, World War II Army Nominal Rolls (1939-1948). He was single and living at Easson Street, Rotorua.

He enlisted and served as a Sapper with the New Zealand Engineers, 15 Forestry Company. His next of kin was recorded as Mr J.W. Burt [sic] (father), Easson Street, Rotorua, New Zealand. Service No: 34562

Sadly he died of sickness on 8 November 1943 at the age of 25 and was buried at Rotorua Cemetery and Crematorium, 160 Sala Street, Rotorua, New Zealand[1]. Grave Reference: Soldiers Area 18. 38. 2.

His name is also memorialised on the Auckland War Memorial Museum World War 2 Hall of Memories.
