Frederick was born in 1890. Frederick Henry Adolphus Reid, was the eldest son of Harry Reid and Elizabeth Godard. In May 1917 age 24, Fred enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve, and served on the HMCS., Shearwater, the HMCS., Rainbow, the HMCS., Niobe, and the HMCS., Seagull. Those vessel's theater of operation was the patrol of Canada's West Coast, Fred was demobilised on 17, March 1919. Later he received War Badge, Navy Class AA and the Victory and British War Medals. (for his service to Canada in time of war). Upon his return from active service, Fred received a homestead not far from Vermillion, Alberta. Through the "Soldiers' Settlement Board. He met Louise Alice McLeod, and the two were married in Koknee, Alberta, on Christmas Day 1924. After the birth of their first son in 1927, the couple moved to Edmonton. Where Fred started working for the Canadian Post Office. By 1935 three more children were born a son and two daughters.Fred concluded a long successful career with the Post Office and retired in 1955, In 1956 the couple moved to Salt Spring Island to help his brother Jim build the Motel, They purchased property on the Island and over time designed and built two different homes. There they happily remained until 1972. Fred had become ill by this time and found caring for their home and property difficult. He and Louise moved to Whiterock on the mainland to ease the burden and be nearer to their children. two years later, on 8 January 1974, Frederick passed away age 84.
