Alexander was Christened on 14 April 1834, Alexander Reid an agricultural labourer married Isabella Russell at Elgin, Scotland on 24th November 1854. Isabella is the daughter of a flour miller. Elgin is situated in the Laich of Moray, otherwise known as the "granary of Scotland', a fertile seaboard plain, between the Moray Firth and the Monadhlaith and Cairngorm mountains. Alexander moved from Alves to Elgin on marriage, their first child was born in Elgin on 01st January 1855, they named her Helen.
Alexander, Isabella and their wee lass Helen immigrated to Australia on the Ship Euphrates which sailed on 09th August 1856. The ship was 617 tons and this was the only time during its working life that it sailed as an immigrant ship. During September Isabella presented Alexander with a son, whom was called Alexander Jr.
The Euphrates arrived in Belfast Vic on 19 November 1856.
With the establishment of a Colonial whaling station in 1835, the township name of "Belfast" was
picked. The Belfast Post Office opened on 01 July 1843.
On 20 July 1887, the Colonial whaling station town of Belfast became known as it is to-day,
Port Fairy, Vic.
