Baptized at St. Peter's Church on 27 Apr 1828, Elizabeth Sitler serving as sponsor.
Granddaughter of Michael and Susannah Remley, who arrived in the 1790s to the area of Knob Mountain between Orangeville and Berwick in Briar Creek Township.
Met and married Alem Whitmire of Orangeville by 1848. Eleven children are known to have been born to this union, all of whom appear to have survived to adulthood and married. The family is counted in the census returns of Orange Township (likely an error) in 1850 and Centre Township in 1860 (though barely legible), 1870, and 1880.
An 1876-printed atlas map of Centre Township places Alem Whitmire's residence on the east side of present-day Cabin Run Road between PA 93 and Eckroth Road, approximately here, about two miles east of Orangeville and six miles west of Berwick.
The 1880 Census remarks that Sarah had "palsy", an archaic term used to describe a multitude of paralyzing diseases. Sarah was still living by 17 Sep 1884 when her and Alem granted land in Centre Township to a David B. Whitmire.[1]
The location of Alem and Sarah's burial is uncertain. They were probably buried unmarked at New Ebenezer Cemetery, only a ⅓ of a mile north of their residence on the north side of PA 93, marked here.
