Biography

John Ramey was born in Westmoreland County, Province of Virginia about 1712. He was the son of William and Catherine (Asbury) Ramey.[1] On 6 Apr 1740 he married Mary Linton in Overwharton Parish, Stafford, Province of Virginia.[2][3] Mary was the granddaughter of William Linton.

Richmond Co., Va. ,Order Book 13, pgs. 327-332; p. 327 - "Court Held Oct. 7, 1755." p.332 - "Ramey and attendance; On motion of John Ramey a witness for Lettuce Lynton an infant under the age of 21 years, by John Peyton her guardian, defendent in the suit ot Thomas Styles, Lessee of Wm. Kennan plaintiff; - The Court ordered the said defendant pay him 11000 Lbs. of tobacco for 8 days attendance and for coming and going 75 miles four times at the Court according to law."
Note; 75 miles from Warsaw in Richmond County would place the home or John Remy in Stafford county. Stafford county was taken from Westmoreland Co. in 1666. Embraced in its then boundary were what is now Prince William county, Loudon, Fairfax and part of Faquier counties. Overwharton Parish in Stafford county extended about 80 miles along the Pontiac with a breadth of 24 miles embracing Prince William, Loudon, Fairfax, Alexandria and part of Faquier County. In 1730 Prince William was taken from Stafford county and Hamilton Parish was erected succeeding Overwharton Parish. In 1724 there were 650 families and 100 communicants. Rev. Dr. Sco.tt was Rector from 1710 to 1738 and Rev. John Moncure a Scotch Huguenot was Rector from 1738 to 1764.

John and Mary removed from Stafford County to Henry County about 1781, where John died in 1791.[1]
