On 30 January 1865 he married Christina Hamman in the Dutch Reformed Church of Wellington in Wellington.[3]
He died on 2 May 1935 at the house of his son on the farm "Keerweder", Klein Drakenstein, Paarl[2] due to old age and cerebral anaemia which lasted 5 months.[4] He was buried in the Klein Drakenstein cemetery in the Paarl district.[5]
