He was baptised on 3 May 1812 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Paarl.[1] On 9 October 1838 a part of the farm Keerweder in Klein-Drakenstein was sold to Johannes J. Hendriks who later on transferred it to Andries. This part of the farm was later known as Waterkloof.
