Alexander RETTIE was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 7 Jul 1882.[1] He was the son of William RETTIE and Elizabeth WATSON.
In 1891, he was a Scholar living with his parents at Northfield Place in Aberdeen, Scotland.[2] Also present were his brothers William (age 15, Apprentice Wholesale Clothier), Joseph (age 6), and Robert (age 3) and his sisters Jane (age 21, Envelope Manufacturer), Ann (age 17, Mantle Maker) and Elizabeth (age 10, Scholar).
In 1901, he worked as a House Carpenter living with his parents at 15, Miller Street in Aberdeen, Scotland.[3] Also present were his brothers William (age 25, General Draper), Joseph (age 16, Apprentice Cabinet Maker), and Robert (age 13, Scholar) and his sister Lizzie (age 20, Student at Training College).
In 1906, he emigrated from Scotland to the USA.[4]
On 20 Jun 1917, Alexander married Margaret GRANT in New York, NY, USA.[5]
On 1 Aug 1917, Alexander joined the Royal Flying Corps at Toronto.[5] His service number was 73407 and his address was given as 526 West 149th Street, New York City.[5] His age was given as 35 and occupation as Carpenter.[5] He was 5ft 9in tall and had a 36in chest.[5] He was discharged on 16 Aug 1918, having served 1 year and 17 days (Alexander had taken the oath at New York on 31 Jul 1917).[5]
In 1920, he lived in Assembly District 3, Manhattan, New York, New York, USA.[4] Also present were his wife Margaret (age 26), son Alexander Jr. (age 0) and brother Joseph (age 34).
