Biography

William Rhoads was the son of William Rhoads and Ann Underwood of Randolph County, North Carolina. Their 1800 Census household enumerated eight children still living at home.[1] William Rhoads is the male aged 10 - 15 in that household.

In 1802, William Rhoads's father died.[2] There were no guardianship or Orphan's Court files naming the ten children of William and Ann Underwood Rhoads.

By 1805, the Ann Rhoads family embarked on their westward journey to the newly formed state of Ohio.[3] Her brother, James Underwood led the expedition. The family were accompanied by several members of the Cox family, who were married to William Rhoads's elder sisters.

William Rhoads was married to Amy Brewer in 1812 at Ross County, Ohio.[4] The couple were parents to the following children:[5]

John Rhoads
William Rhoads
Thomas Rhoads
James Rhoads
Amos N Rhoads
Naomi Rhoads
Jerrod Rhoads
Margaret Peggy Rhoads
Jacob Rhoads
William Eleander Rhoads
Cyrus Rhoads

It seems that William Rhoads's sibling group stayed close to their mother in White Water Township, Randolph County, Indiana[6] until her death circa 1839.[7]

Rhoads Brothers in 1840 Census

By 1850, William Rhoads's family and his sister Keziah Rhoads Cox's family had traveled west to Montgomery County, Indiana.[8]

William Rhoads continued his westward journey to Cass Township, Guthrie County, Iowa.[9]

William Rhoads died in 1864 in Guthrie County, Iowa.[10]
