Biography

Frederick was born on 13 June 1769 in Manchester, York, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Anthony Roth and Magdalena (Burkholder) Roth.[1]

Frederick was listed as Frederick Roads on page 133, #259 of the Rockingham Co., VA Census of 1810. Those listed in the household were as follows: One Male under 10 (son Samuel) Two Males 10-15 (sons Anthony and John) One Male 26-44 (Frederick-head) One Female under 10 (daughter Frances?) Two Females 16-25 (daughters Elizabeth & Anne?) One Female 26-44 (Magdalena-wife) Frederick was listed as Frederic Roads on page 158, #1452 of the Rockingham Co., Va Census of 1820. Those listed in the household were as follows: One Male under 10 (son Frederick) Two Males 10-15 (son Samuel and ???) One Male 18-25 (son John) One Male over 45 (Frederick- head) One Female 10-15 (daughter Frances?) One Female 25-45 (possibly unproven daughter Anne) One Female over 45 (Magdalena-wife) ____________________________________________________________________________ Frederick purchased 100 acres by deed from Michael and Susannah Wise on 9/27/1790 for one hundred and ninety pounds. This land would have been on what was then known as Curtis Creek (now Pleasant Run). This tract of 100 acres was the original portion of a total tract which expanded to at least 166 acres on both sides of Curtis Creek(Pleasant Run) in Pleasant Valley, Rockingham, VA by 1847. Sons John( 366 acres including original 166) and Samuel owned (91 acres) 457 acres in 1850. ___________________________________________________________________ The 1790 deed from Michael Wise Jr. to Frederick Rodes of 100 acres appears to have had a previous ownership chain as follows:

Original Patent 3/10/1756 by William Logan Sold to Samuel Gibson and wife Elizabeth between 8/19/1771 and 11/1775 Sold by Samuel Gibson and wife Elizabeth to son Robert on 8/19/1777 Sold by Robert Gibson to Peter Roller between 8/19/1777 and 5/22/1780 Sold by Peter Roller to Michael Wise (ie. John Michael Wise or Micheal Wise Sr.) and wife Barbara on 5/22/1780 Sold by Michael Wise Sr. and wife Anna Barbara to Michael Wise Jr. on 4/23/1787 Sold by Michael Wise Jr. and wife Susannah to Frederick Rodes on 9/27/1790

In the 1830 census Frederick (age 60) was living in Rockingham, Virginia, United States.[2]

In the 1840 census Frederick (age 70) was living in Rockingham, Virginia, United States.[3]

Frederick died at the age of 78 on 21 June 1847 in Augusta (now Rockingham), Virginia and was buried in Pleasant Valley (Rockingham County), Rockingham County, Virginia, USA.[1]
