William Rhodes II was born on 3 December 1724 and christened on 3 January 1724 in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia.[1] He was the son of William Rhodes and Hannah Miller. His father died in 1744 at Orange County, Virginia.[2] Five sons were named in the will of William Rhodes: Christopher, William, John, Benjamin and Hezekiah. Four of these brothers removed to North Carolina.
William Rhodes sought his fortune in Orange County, North Carolina.[3] He and his brothers Benjamin and Christopher entered their land claims there in 1752. Brother John Rhodes followed shortly after.

William Rhodes was married to Mary Baker. People have called her Mary "Baker" because of the son Benjamin Baker Rhodes who was named in the will of William Rhodes, written in 1802 and proved in 1804 at Orange County, North Carolina. Here is an abstract:
